Okay here we are. I have named this litter "The Fame Litter."
I figure this would be a great place to learn and see how a whole litter of four black and tan dapple girls mature. We can compare all our thoughts and critiquing to when they are professionally evaluated and even further, when they are stacked at a mature age and hopefully even a few are shown...

Dam: My "Cherub" Black and Tan Dapple (Auslagen Morgans Mayhem)
Sire: Black & Cream UK Import "Toad", residing with Pamadron Kennels in Canada (Zarcrest Ice Impact)

Pictured at 2 days old-

In birth order:

Girl One: (Seems very proportionate, nice bone, flashy color, may be slightly forward in shoulder?)

Girl Two: (Seems longest in body, heaviest in bone and nice long face, but least flashy coloring)

Girl Three: (Smallest but proportionate for her size)

Girl Four: (Tip of tail was bent and folded neatly over. I have it taped up and it is straighter, but this could result in a kinked tail, not hereditary thank goodness, but due to the way she was in the womb. This will be a big kicker to see how it turns out, as she is very, very pretty. Nice flashy coloring and good sized like number one)

Are you able to hang them and get someone to take the photos while you do? Or even what I was thinking of doing-try getting video of you hanging them. That way if your camera has a delay like mine, you can at least freeze the video at the best spot.

Girl# 1 is the one with the fat little rear end I liked, btw :D

Very exciting... and odd that your line up is nearly like mine except we are missing a 4th. The first is the flashy one and very nice... second has lots of bone and skin but is the least flashy colorwise, and third is the smallest but nice as well.

As for the tail it shouldn't stop her from finishing... some judges may not like it but we've seen bassets with a kinked tail do just fine. It's not hereditary and is just from how they were sitting in the womb so it shouldn't matter plus it does nothing to detract from their job.

REALLY?? Now you have me thinkin.. I just assumed if her tail was less than perfect, even if not genetically caused, she would not be allowed to show... I have never had a kined tailor a squished tail in a litter before, so this is new to me. It is doing well for now, but if it stays straight after their bones have hardened, one may feel a slight imperfection running their fingers down her tail. I guess time will tell, but you put it in a different light for me if she just happens to be "The One." Thank you!

And Kathleen, yes. I will try and get help from someone to hold camera tomorrow while I "Attempt" to hang the babies. So far, they don't want to cooperate for me much... We shall see if perhaps a little practice helps?

Yeah it shouldn't matter if she has the slight kink in it but you can help it by keeping it straight till then. With her being a long hair too that may help as it might mask it. Sure a judge will be able to feel it but it shouldn't matter much.

Lovely pups, looking forward to the hung photos :). Myself I prefer the denser dark on a dapple; I know the longs look great with more "chrome" :D not so much on smooths or wires.

I too thought the long hair would maybe hide any slight kink, the judges don't examine every joint in the tail so running the tail through their fingers they aren't likely to pick up on it, hope she gets a nice "flag" when her coat matures.

Look forward to the "hung" pics, best done when they are sleepy and have a full belly,I recently bought a tiny video camera you can hang round your neck so I will be able to get hung videos without relying on anyone else for help,as it doesn't have a view finder it maybe a hit or a miss to get them till I figure out where the camera is picking up and me getting the pups at the same level, just need pups to try it out on.

Pretty bubs :: cant tell much about their conformation so will wait for those hung pics :) As far as the kinked tail goes that is a fault here and very few judges would put them through ; breeders would also "talk" if it was being shown as kinked tails are sold off as pets here:: upon saying that if it is not heriditary and she turns out nice then it might be worthwhile trying to work with her.

Well number four will likely be going to a pet home... As pretty as she is, I feel it is just not great to mess too much with her tail. Cherub doesn't like the wrap on and now where I had it wrapped looks skinny... Can't win with it, so I am just going to let it be I think. I am sure she will make a wonderful pet by the time I am done with them :MG: LOTS of socialization going on here with the Montessori school kids and such...
Ok, here is my GOD-AWEFUL attempt at hanging them! They did not cooperate one bit, but it is a start. All of them wanted to claw my fingers with their front paws so most pictures I took they had their front feet forced forward... Ugh. I will keep working on it with them...

I like the bone on one and four. Three looks like she's going to have her mama's build, to me. Two is a little too scrunched up for me to really tell anything yet. I like the looks of number four right now (of course, it helps that her picture is the best)-I wouldn't give up on her tail quite yet.
